The 18th Biannual Congress of the Latin American Association for the Development of Agricultural Insurance (ALASA) took place from April 7 to 10, 2025, in the city of Brasilia (Brazil).
With the participation of more than 500 attendees from around 15 countries, the conference was celebrated under the general theme of “Protecting the Future of Agriculture” and focused on topics associated with climate change and catastrophic insurance, tech innovations, parametric insurances and the developments of Latin American markets, although representatives from other areas, like US and China, also participated.
In this framework, a specific panel on “The Contribution of Insurance Associations to Agricultural Resilience” was held on April 9 with the participation of the presidents of FASECOLDA (Colombian Insurers Federation), AMIS (Mexican Insurers Association) and FENSEG (National Federation of Insurers in Brazil) as well as AIAG, represented by Ignacio Machetti, a member or our Board, who intervened on behalf of our president, Pascal Forrer. Mr Machetti, who is also a member of ALASA’s Board, had the opportunity of presenting the history, structure and organisation, value propositions and the vision and main purposes of AIAG.
Our participation was of particular interest to the conference, as ALASA is a close partner Association, and both organisations hold reciprocal Board memberships.
Another member of AIAG’s Board, Tom Zacharias, also participated in this Congress, in a panel about “International Experiences in Agricultural Insurance”, in which he provided the attendees with details on the USA Crop Insurance Program.
Likewise, a representative of the Chinese company CPPIC – as well represented in our Board, Dr Ming Zhu, presented in the same panel the International Agro-Insurance Best Practice in China.
