The 77th Annual Convention of the US agricultural insurance industry took place from February 9 to 12, 2025, and was jointly organized by NCIS (National Crop Insurance Services) and AACI (American Association of Crop Insurers).
After the opening statement by NCIS and AACI, the analyses and positions of members of Congress and their advisors on the US crop insurance program were discussed and the central role of subsidized agricultural insurance for American farmers was underlined.
The RMA (Risk Management Agency, United States Department of Agriculture) presented a review and outlook of the development and composition of the crop insurance market in the US, as well as the introduction of numerous new covers and cover extensions in consultation with stakeholders.
This was followed by the presentation of a scientific study showing the currently difficult situation (negative cash flows) for some agricultural businesses. Finally, the challenges and, in particular, the opportunities offered by new technologies (satellite and weather data, big data and AI) were discussed in detail at an Ag-Tech panel.
AIAG was represented by its president, Pascal Forrer. Once again, the participation at this convention provided a great opportunity to network and make valuable new contacts. This was especially true for the contacts with Tom Zacharias, president of NCIS and also a Board member of AIAG, as well as with representatives of American agricultural insurers and international reinsurers.
The varied program provided a deep insight into the successful and long-established US private-public partnership system and the extremely extensive insurance offering.
We congratulate the NCIS and the AACI on organizing this successful event, which was very well attended by over four hundred participants.
